Shutoff: Remove Seed Meter and Drive
The meter drive chain of an unused row unit still
operates, even if the row is locked-up, seed flow shut off
and meter wheel disengaged.

To minimize wear on the sprockets, chain and idlers of
unused rows, remove the chain completely. If the chain is
removed, you may also remove the seed meters on
unused rows.

At each row to be deactivated:

1.

Install seed corks or baffles to block upper seed
tubes.

2.

Remove meters (see page 59). Leave the lower
sliding seed tube connected to the meter.

Refer to Figure 49
3.

Lift the idler spring

off the lower post

. Store the

spring with the meter.

4.

Rotate idler assembly

out of engagement with

chain.

5.

Remove the clip joining the chain ends, and remove
the chain

. Store the chain with the meter.

Do not leave the chain on the driving sprocket. Even with
idlers disengaged, meter removed, and/or the chain off
the driven sprocket, machine damage will occur.

Disk Blade Adjustments

Opener disc angle and stagger is not adjustable, but
disc-to-disc spacing is, and may need attention as discs
experience normal wear. Spacers will need to be reset
when blades are replaced.

Refer to Figure 50
The ideal spacing causes the blades to be in contact for
about one inch. If you insert two pieces of notebook
paper between the blades, the gap between them should
be 0 to 1.75in (0-4.4cm).

If the contact region is significantly larger or smaller (or
there is no contact at all), it needs to be adjusted by
moving one or more spacer washers. If the contact
region varies with blade rotation, one or both blades is
likely bent and in need of replacement.
