Link OAM

9.0 Operation, Administration and Maintenance

The Operation, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) is defined in Section 57 of the IEEE
802.3-2005 standard. Its functions provide mechanisms for monitoring link operations at the data
link layer, such as remote fault indication and remote loopback control. OAM provides network
operators with the ability to monitor the health of the network and quickly determine the location
of any failing links or fault conditions. OAM provides data link layer mechanisms that complement
applications that may reside in higher layers, such as Connectivity Fault Management (CFM)
802.1ag. OAM is supported via SNMP with the standard dot3Oam.my and the Canoga Perkins
proprietary cpDot3Oam.my MIB files.

From the Main Menu, select Link OAM (9) and press Enter. The Link OAM menu (Figure 9-1)
opens.
