User’s Guide

Although each control unit’s destination can be selected, the control unit can also be configured
having a default destination. If the unit has a default destination, it can function without desti-
nation selection buttons.

There are 7 button function types for a panel operating under the standalone model:

Destination

Destination Lock

Destination Protect

Quick Source

Salvo

Source

Take

These are described in

Buttons for the Standalone Model

on page 58.

Each control unit can switch up to 9 sources

on ‘Quick Source’ buttons

to its destination. If

the unit has no destination buttons, you cannot change its destination.

In general, the control unit should have more than one ‘Source’ or ‘Quick Source’ button.

LCD XY/MD Model

Under the LCD XY/MD model, the panel also operates standalone, not requiring the presence of
an NV9649, and has a moderately richer function set. The 3 sections of the NV9648 are not inde-
pendent, but form an integral unit:

The displays are used together to show the preset source, the currently selected destination,
and the source currently routed to that destination.

In XY mode, level information is typically displayed on selection buttons. The displays show
the source and destination on the primary level.

The panel’s buttons can be used in a hierarchical fashion: pressing a ‘navigation’ button causes
the panel to display a new set of configured button functions, called a “button page.” There can
be many such pages, organized in a configurable “tree” structure.

The configured tree structure is not readily apparent to operators. (You should discuss your
panel’s tree structure with your system’s administrator.) However, you might notice that certain
buttons cause the panel’s button legends, and colors, to change. The buttons that cause a new
button page to be displayed are navigate buttons and category buttons. (See

Category Selec-

tion

on page 54.)

Pressing a menu button will also cause the set of buttons to change, but the menu that
results is not a “button page” per se, and is not part of normal operations.
