Overview

This section provides an overview of how the MVI69-DNP module transfers data
using the DNP protocol. You should understand the important concepts in this
chapter before you begin installing and configuring the module.

5.2.1 General

Concepts

The following discussion explains several concepts that are important for
understanding the operation of the MVI69-DNP module.

Module Power Up

On power up the module begins performing the following logical functions:

1 Initialize hardware components.

o

Initialize CompactLogix or MicroLogix backplane driver.

o

Test and Clear all RAM.

o

Initialize the serial communication ports.

o

Initialize the TCP/IP stack and Ethernet interface.

2 Read module configuration from DNP.CFG file on Compact Flash disk or

Flash RAM (depending on hardware configuration).

3 Initialize the Module Register Space.
4 Enable Client and/or Server driver on selected ports, as configured.

When this initialization procedure is complete, the module will begin
communicating with other nodes on the network, depending on the configuration.

Main Logic Loop

Upon completing the power up configuration process, the module enters an
infinite loop that performs the following functions:
