Drive Terminal Application

Chapter 4

Communications Failure

When the terminal application cannot communicate to the drive, a
communication error dialog appears (

Figure 64

). The error could be the result of

a user action, such as putting the drive into download mode from another
terminal, or cycling power to the drive. If this is the case, press Yes and the
terminal will close.

Figure 64 - Communications Error Notification

If the communications loss was unexpected, it may be the result of the Ethernet
connection and might be recoverable. Press ‘No’, and the message in

Figure 65

will be displayed giving the opportunity to attempt to reconnect.

Figure 65 - Communications Error Action

To reconnect, press the ‘Retry’ button, otherwise press ‘Cancel’. If the
communication loss was due to loading new firmware to the drive, ‘Cancel’
should be pressed. If reconnection is successful, the terminal application will
continue to function, otherwise this message will continue to reappear.

When it is not possible to reconnect to the drive and ‘Cancel’ has been pressed,
the message in

Figure 66

will be shown. Pressing either button closes the terminal

application.

An error report can be produced if required at the request of Product Support for
analysis. The report is called “Terminal2009Dump.txt” and is found in the ‘Base
Directory’.
