IMPORTANT:

The cards for the switch are shipped with protection boxes. Before installing a card, remove the
protection box.

Before installing a card on the chassis, make sure the connectors on the card are not broken or blocked
to avoid damaging the backplane.

If you are not to install a card in a card slot, install a filler panel in the slot to ensure good ventilation of
the switch.

Install one MPU, or two MPUs for
redundancy on the switch.

If you are to install one MPU, install it in

either MPU slot.

The PCB must face up.

On an S12510-X AC, the PCB of the LPU

must face left.

On an S12516-X AC, the PCB of the LPU

must face up.

The MPU/LPU installation procedure is the same for the S12500-X switches. This section describes how
to install an LPU on an S12510-X AC switch.
To install an LPU on an S12510-X AC switch:

1.

Wear an ESD wrist strap, and make sure it makes good skin contact and is reliably grounded. For
more information, see "

Attaching an ESD wrist strap

."

2.

As shown in

Figure 22

, remove the filler panel (if any) from the target slot.

Keep the filler panel for future use.

3.

Loosen the captive screws that secure the LPU to the protection box, pull the ejector levers on the
LPU outward, and pull out the LPU from the protection box. See

Figure 23

.

4.

Orient the LPU with the PCB facing left. Hold the LPU by the front panel with one hand and support
its bottom with the other. Slide the LPU steadily into the target slot along the guide rails.
Do not touch the components on the PCB.

5.

As shown by callout 1 in

Figure 24

, push the LPU until the brakes on its ejector levers touch the slot

edges tightly.

6.

As shown by callout 2 in

Figure 24

, press the ejector levers inward until the ejector levers touch the

panel tightly and the LPU seats into the backplane.

7.

As shown by callout 3 in

Figure 24

, fasten the captive screws on the LPU.
