When Incorrect Copies are Produced

Symptom

Possible Cause

Remedy

The image is too light.

The copy density is set too
light.

Select a darker copy density
setting. Refer to p. 5-20.

The paper is damp.

Replace the paper. Refer to
p. 9-1.

The image is too dark.

The copy density is set too
dark.

Select a lighter copy density
setting. Refer to p. 5-20.

The document is not pressed
tight enough against the
original glass.

Position the document so
that it is pressed tightly
against the original glass.
Refer to p. 4-10.

The copy is blurry.

The paper is damp.

Replace the paper. Refer to
p. 9-1.

The document is not flat
against the original glass.

Position the document flat
against the original glass.
Refer to p. 4-10.

There are dark specks or
spots throughout the entire
copy.

The original glass is dirty.

Wipe the glass with a soft dry
cloth. Refer to p. 11-8.

Either the document pad or
the document transfer belt is
dirty.

Clean the document pad or
the document transfer belt
with a soft cloth dampened
with mild detergent. Refer to
p. 11-9.

The original is very thin or
highly transparent.

Place a blank sheet of paper
over the document. Refer to
p. 4-12.

If a thin double-sided
document is being copied,
the information on the back
side may be reproduced in
the copy.

Select a darker setting for the
background copy density.
