ISRP CE Client Setup

Using WMDC with Windows Server 2008

When you use Windows Server 2008 operating system, you must install
the Desktop Features Experience before installing Windows Mobile
Device Center software. Please see

“Installing the Desktop Features Experi-

ence” on page 24

.

Microsoft SQL
Server

IntelliTrack uses Microsoft SQL Server to run the workstation application
database and Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition to run the CE Client
application database.

Microsoft SQL Server is a server application that runs the IntelliTrack
ISRP database. The Microsoft SQL Server Express is also a server applica-
tion that runs the IntelliTrack database. If you are not using SQL Server,
the system will install and use SQL Express
to run the IntelliTrack data-
base. SQL Server or SQL Express must be properly setup and configured
before the SQL Server and the SQL CE database will communicate.
(Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition is the database engine used on the
handheld device to run the IntelliTrack CE database. It is installed on the
handheld device during CE Batch Portable installation. The information
that is stored in the local SQL Server CE database table is transferred to the
main IntelliTrack workstation application database during a “data upload”
and then integrated into the main database after it is processed.)

RDA Configuration

Important:The sections that follow deal with advanced network settings.
Consult your system administrator to determine the best Remote Data
Access (RDA) setup option for your system.

The required components for Remote Data Access (RDA) can be installed
on your system in various configurations: installing all components on a
single computer, distributing the components between two computers, or
distributing the components on three or more computers. Another element
to RDA is permissions. In a domain setting, active directory permissions
must be allowed for PCs in the network domain that receive data from the
ISRP CE Client application. Please note that in a workgroup setting, active
directory is not used (local permissions are used).
