Before importing the inventory data into a Stockroom system, exit the
Stockroom environment and enter the Access environment. Open the
Stockroom system with the full version of Microsoft Access and use the
Navigation Pane to work with the application tables, forms, queries, and
reports.
Import Access Inventory Data
The first step in building the new Stockroom system is to import the exist-
ing inventory data. The existing inventory data is usually contained in a
single file, such as an Excel file. IntelliTrack’s Stockroom database is rela-
tional, and stores inventory information in several related tables.
1. From the External Data tab, select Import > and then select your
Import File Type from the ribbon options.
2. The Get External Data dialog appears. Click the Browse button at the
end of the File Name field.
3. The File Open window appears. Click the Browse button at the end of
the File Name field.
4. The File Open window appears. Browse to the import file location and
select it.
5. Click the Open button; the File Open window closes and you are
returned to the Get External Data dialog. The file that you selected is
entered in the File Name field.
6. Select OK to continue.
If importing from Excel or text files, an Import wizard appears. Follow
the steps in the Import Wizard to import data into the table.
If the imported field has the field names in the first row of the tables,
select the First Row Contains Field Name option.
Click Next.
At the prompt for data storage, select In a New Table. Click Next.
In the next window, specify the details of each field being imported.
Click Next.
Select a primary key or let the wizard pick one.
In the last window, name the table and click Finish.
If existing data is going to be stored in several files, import each of the
files and repeat the procedure for each file.
