• C-bit Errored Second (CES)—A CES is a second with one or

more CCVs or one or more Out of Frame (OOF) defects or a
detected incoming AIS. This gauge is not increased when UASs
are counted.

• Alarm Indication Signal Second (AISS)—A second when the

CSU receives an unframed all-ones alarm indication signal
(AIS) from the network.

• Line Coding Violation (LCV)—An LCV error event is a count of

both bipolar violations (BPVs) and excessive zeros (EXZs)
occurring over the accumulation period. An EXZ increments
the LCV by one regardless of the length of the zero string.

• Line Errored Second (LES)—An LES is a second in which one or

more LCVs occurred or one or more LOS defects.

• Loss of Signal Second (LOSS)—A second during which the CSU

is in a Loss of Signal (LOS) state.

• P-bit Coding Violation (PCV)—A P-bit parity error event is the

occurrence of a received P-bit code on the DS3 M-frame that is
not identical to the corresponding locally-calculated code.

• P-bit Errored Second (PES)—A PES is a second with one or

more P-bit Coding Violations (PCVs) or one or more Out of
Frame defects or a detected incoming AIS. This gauge is not
increased when Unavailable Seconds (UASs) are counted.
