The E

B option is used as the Master key for a 912-based application. This key is called the COMM

key. The COMM key can be used, in addition to the Master PIN key entered in Key A, for PIN encryption.
Note: This key is host processor specific. If they require a “B” key entry, they must provide those keys (in
addition to the “A” key) to be entered.

Based on 912 settings, the PIN can be optional encrypted using either the Master PIN key or the COMM key,
or both (double-encrypted). Once a COMM key is loaded, the B key is no longer used. Any additional COMM
key downloaded from the host will be encrypted with the current working value of the COMM key. The
COMM key can also be used to encrypt the MAC key when it is loaded.

Optionally, the host can command the ATM to revert the COMM key to the B key originally entered. This
usually occurs when communications is lost and an ATM becomes out of sync with the COMM key. In this
case, the host will command the ATM to revert the COMM key to the original value input as the B key. Once
the host is able to revert to a known starting point, it can reinitiate key exchanges.

To enter the COMM key, follow the procedures used for entering Key A.

of numbers as a “Fill” in this field (ex: all ones <1>). It will not affect the key download from the
host.
