ATM settlements generally follow a standard procedure with every network that brings up a terminal running
912-emulation. In 912, settlement transactions are unique by customer and are controlled by the host. The
screens for the settlement will be exactly the same whether it’s an NCR, Diebold, or Triton, as long as all are
doing 912-emulation. A settlement transaction is recognized by the account on the card. The settlement trans-
action and journal entries would then be handled like any other transaction per transaction request and
function commands. The settlement screens are controlled by the host and are vendor independent.

Settlement cards are issued by the Host processor and are usually not given to vendors unless the vendor has
a service agreement with the bank for first-line service. The settlement process varies from one network to the
other. Vendors will have to request a settlement card from the processor. Basically, this is the general proce-
dure:

The bank is given a specific settlement card with a PIN number assigned. How often a bank does a settlement
depends on the bank’s policy; some banks may settle the terminal once a day while others may do it once a
week. Settlement screens are downloaded from the Host along with the rest of the screen configuration data.

The following procedures are performed from the FRONT DISPLAY INITIALLY. After following these
steps, the host settlement process will be always be performed from the REAR DISPLAY.

!

The following prompt requires you to insert and remove the settlement card. The track data will be
captured and stored in the terminals PC. You WILL NOT have to scan the the settlement card
again. Press <1> to return to menu.
