System requirements

XP Continuous Access Journal operations involve primary and secondary arrays containing the
primary and secondary volumes, remote copy connections between primary and secondary arrays,
hosts at the primary and remote sites, and the licensed XP Continuous Access Journal. XP Continuous
Access Journal system requirements are:

Primary array: local array with XP Continuous Access Journal installed

Secondary array: local array with XP Continuous Access Journal installed

NOTE:

XP Continuous Access Journal can coexist with Hitachi Universal Replicator for z/OS

in the same local array.

Remote copy connections: Fibre Channel (see

Multimode or single-mode optical fibre cables are required at the primary and secondary
arrays.

For distances up to 0.5 km, multimode optical shortwave fiber cables are required between
the primary and secondary arrays.

For distances from 0.5 km to 1.5 km (1,640 to 4,920 feet), multimode shortwave Fibre
Channel interface cables with up to two switches are required.

For distances up to 10 km, single optical longwave fiber cables are required between
the primary and secondary arrays.

For distances from 10 km to 30 km (6.2 to 18.6 miles), single-mode longwave Fibre
Channel interface cables with up to two switches are required.

For distances greater than 30 km (18.6 miles), approved third-party channel extender
products and telecommunications lines are required. Long-distance XP Continuous Access
Journal solutions are provided based on user requirements and workload characteristics.

Host platforms

The local array supports XP Continuous Access Journal operations for a variety of UNIX-based
and PC server platforms, including HP-UX 11.0, HP-UX 11i, Sun Solaris 9, Windows 2000,
Windows 2003, and IBM AIX 5.1 platforms.

XP Command View Advanced Edition Software or XP Remote Web Console software and XP
Continuous Access Journal license codes

XP Command View Advanced Edition Software or XP Remote Web Console is required for
the XP Continuous Access Journal operations. XP Continuous Access Journal is a component
of XP Command View Advanced Edition Software or XP Remote Web Console. XP Continuous
Access Journal license key codes are required to enable XP Continuous Access Journal options
on the local array (see

Enabling XP Continuous Access Journal options

). Separate license

codes are required for each local array.
