NOTE:

Administrator or XP Continuous Access Journal write access to XP Command View

Advanced Edition Software or XP Remote Web Console is required to perform XP Continuous
Access Journal operations. Users without Administrator or XP Continuous Access Journal write
access can only view XP Continuous Access Journal information.

About the license of XP Continuous Access Journal — To use XP Continuous Access Journal,
you must install not only a license for XP Continuous Access Journal but also a license for
Continuous Access XP and XP Continuous Access Asynchronous. Also, the license capacity
of XP Continuous Access Journal, the license capacity of XP Continuous Access and the license
capacity of XP Continuous Access Asynchronous must satisfy the following equation: License
capacity of XP Continuous Access ≥ License capacity of XP Continuous Access Asynchronous
≥ License capacity of XP Continuous Access Journal.

Requirements and restrictions for XP Continuous Access Journal

One-to-one volume copy operations

XP Continuous Access Journal normally requires a one-to-one relationship between logical volumes
and volume pairs. You can normally assign a volume (LU) to only one XP Continuous Access Journal
pair at a time.

However, when creating an XP Continuous Access Journal pair for delta resync operations, you
can specify the normal XP Continuous Access Journal secondary volume to also be the delta resync
secondary volume (see

Figure 31 (page 70)

). In that case, you must create a mirror for the delta

resync pair and the non-delta resync pair. For more information, see

XP Continuous Access Journal

delta resync operations

and

Combining Continuous Access XP Journal with Continuous Access XP

Synchronous (3DC multi-target configuration)

.

NOTE:

XP Continuous Access Journal does not support operations in which one primary data

volume is copied to more than one XP Continuous Access Journal secondary data volume, or more
than one XP Continuous Access Journal primary data volumes are copied to one secondary data
volume.

Because XP Continuous Access Journal operates on logical volumes rather than files, multivolume
files require special attention. For complete duplication and recovery of a multivolume file (for
example, a large database file spanning several volumes), ensure that all the file's volumes are
copied to the XP Continuous Access Journal secondary data volume, and use XP Continuous Access
Journal to ensure update sequence consistency across this group of secondary data volumes.

Logical unit (LU) types

The following DKC and DKU emulation types can be used for XP Continuous Access Journal.

Table 8 Supported emulation types

Supported type

Emulation

3990-6E, 2105, or 2107

DKC (mainframe)

OPEN-V

NOTE:

Only OPEN-V can be used for journal volumes.

DKU (Drive)

XP Continuous Access Journal displays the emulation types of primary and secondary data volumes.

Table 9 (page 42)

lists the volumes and volume capacities that can be used for XP Continuous

Access Journal data and journal volumes.
