primary volume is in PAIR or COPY status, the XP Continuous Access Synchronous pair
becomes suspended by error.

To release an XP Continuous Access Journal pair, the primary data volume must not share
the volume with XP Continuous Access Synchronous pair.

Notes on XP Continuous Access Synchronous pair operations

For the P-VOL, specify a volume that is not used by an XP Continuous Access Journal pair
(2DC configuration with the system option mode 707). For the S-VOL, specify the XP

Continuous Access Journal primary data volume in PAIR status. The only available
differential management unit is tracks.

To resynchronize an XP Continuous Access Synchronous pair, the XP Continuous Access
Journal primary data volume that shares the same volume with the XP Continuous Access
Synchronous S-VOL must be in PAIR status.

You cannot use the takeover command on the S-VOL when suspending the XP Continuous
Access Synchronous pair.

If you release an XP Continuous Access Synchronous pair when the XP Continuous Access
Journal primary data volume that shares the same volume with XP Continuous Access
Synchronous S-VOL is in COPY status, the XP Continuous Access Journal pair becomes
to be suspended by error.

If the configuration has the following two conditions, X at the end of the device ID which
is displayed at Paired VOL column in the Pair Operation window and the History window,
is not displayed for the TrueCopy Synchronous pair at the local site.

The TrueCopy Synchronous S-VOL is a Dynamic Provisioning virtual volume.

The Continuous Access Journal S-VOL is not a Dynamic Provisioning virtual volume.

Changing to 2DC Configuration after Recovering from Primary Site Failures

After resuming your business tasks on the remote site by following the instructions in

“Recovering

from a Disaster in a 2DC Configuration of XP Continuous Access Journal and XP Continuous Access
Synchronous” (page 213)

, you can transfer the business tasks back to the former primary site if you

remove failures from the primary site and other locations. To transfer the business tasks back to
the former primary site:

1.

If the primary site has old XP Continuous Access Synchronous pairs, release them.

2.

By using RAID Manager, create the XP Continuous Access Synchronous pair. When creating
the pair, specify the former XP Continuous Access Journal secondary data volume in the remote
site as the P-VOL, and the former XP Continuous Access Synchronous P-VOL as the S-VOL.

3.

Release the XP Continuous Access Synchronous pair whose P-VOL is in the remote site.

4.

Release the former XP Continuous Access Journal and XP Continuous Access Synchronous
pairs in the intermediate site.

5.

Create an XP Continuous Access Journal pair between the intermediate site (XP Continuous
Access Journal primary storage system) and the remote site (XP Continuous Access Journal
secondary storage system).

6.

Create an XP Continuous Access Synchronous pair between the primary site (XP Continuous
Access Synchronous primary storage system) and the intermediate site (XP Continuous Access
Synchronous secondary storage system).

Use the remote command device for XP Continuous Access Journal and XP Continuous Access
Synchronous pair operations if the intermediate site is not connected to the host. For information
about the remote command device, see the HP StorageWorks XP24000/XP20000 External Storage
Software User Guide
