When you use a virtual volume of XP Thin Provisioning (TP-VOL) for XP Continuous Access
Journal P-VOL or S-VOL, the capacity of the allocated pages for TP-VOL is counted as the
licensed capacity of XP Continuous Access Journal. Even if the actual licensed capacity
exceeds the available licensed capacity, you may use XP Continuous Access Journal as
usual for 30 days. After 30 days, you can only split or release the XP Continuous Access
Journal pairs.

Connection with an XP12000/XP10000 Disk Array

XP Continuous Access Journal can execute remote copy operations by connecting an
XP24000/XP20000 Disk Array with an XP12000/XP10000 Disk Array. Specifically, the
following configurations are supported:

One-to-One Volume Copy Operations

XP Continuous Access Journal requires a one-to-one relationship between the volumes of the volume
pairs. A volume (LU) can only be assigned to one XP Continuous Access Journal pair at a time.
However, when creating an XP Continuous Access Journal pair, it is possible to create both a pair
for delta-resync operation, and a pair that is not for delta-resync for the same primary volume.
However, before you use this configuration, create a mirror for the delta-resync pair and the
non-delta-resync pair. For detailed information about delta resync operation, see

XP Continuous Access Journal does not support operations in which more than one primary data
volume is copied to more than one secondary data volumes, or more than one primary data volume
is copied to one secondary data volume.

Because XP Continuous Access Journal operates on volumes rather than on files, multivolume files
require special attention. For complete duplication and recovery of a multivolume file (for example,
a large database file that spans several volumes), make sure that all the volumes of the file are
copied to an XP Continuous Access Journal secondary data volume, and use XP Continuous Access
Journal to ensure update sequence consistency across this group of secondary data volumes.

Logical Unit (LU) Types

The following DKC and DKU emulation types for primary and secondary data volumes can be
used for the XP Continuous Access Journal software:
