To use the delta resync function that uses remote command devices, a remote command
device must be created on the XP Continuous Access Synchronous primary site and the
XP Continuous Access Journal secondary site. For details about creating a remote command
device, see the HP StorageWorks XP24000/XP20000 External Storage Software User

Storage system at the XP Continuous Access Journal secondary site:

The storage system must have XP Continuous Access Journal installed.

The storage system must have an XP Continuous Access Journal secondary data volume.

The storage system must have an XP Continuous Access Journal restore journal volume.

To use the delta resync function that uses remote command devices, a remote command
device must be created on the XP Continuous Access Journal primary site and the XP
Continuous Access Synchronous secondary site. For details about creating a remote

Setup Procedure

This section explains the procedure for setting up a 3DC multi-target configuration using XP
Continuous Access Synchronous and XP Continuous Access Journal.

To set up a 3DC multi-target configuration:

1.

Install XP Continuous Access Synchronous and XP Continuous Access Journal. Configure the
ports and journal groups. Journal groups must be configured for the storage systems at the
three sites.

2.

At the primary site, create an XP Continuous Access Synchronous pair.

3.

Wait until the status of the XP Continuous Access Synchronous pair becomes PAIR.

4.

At the primary site, create an XP Continuous Access Journal pair.

When creating an XP Continuous Access Journal pair, be sure to select a value from 1 to 3
as the mirror ID.

5.

Wait until the status of the XP Continuous Access Journal pair becomes PAIR.

To create an XP Continuous Access Journal pair for the delta resync operation, go to the next
step.

6.

Specify the XP Continuous Access Synchronous S-VOL in the XP Continuous Access Synchronous
secondary site as the primary data volume, and specify the secondary data volume in the XP
Continuous Access Journal secondary site as the secondary data volume to create the XP
Continuous Access Journal pair for the delta resync operation.

Select any mirror ID from 1 to 3 except the one used in step 4.

To use the delta resync operation to support remote command devices, go to the next step.

7.

Assign the remote command device to the mirror ID of the XP Continuous Access Journal pair
on the XP Continuous Access Journal primary site. Additionally, assign the remote command
device to mirror ID 00.
