2 Unplug all the power cables from the AC outlets.

NOTE: If the cooling fan is removed when the server is on,
the server or cooling fan may be damaged.

3 Remove the panels from the server.

See “Removing and replacing the server panels” on page 25.

4 When removing a redundant exhaust fan module, remove the

expansion cards if they are installed.
See the steps4 and 5 in “Installing the expansion card” on page
132.

5 Disconnect the cable of the standard fan module or redundant

fan module that is the object of removing.

Remove the redundant intake fan module cable from the exten-
sion cable connected from the FAN2-R connector on the moth-
erboard. (It is not necessary to remove the extension cable
from the motherboard)
Remove the redundant exhaust fan module cable from the
FAN1-R connector on the motherboard.
