4.14 MSTP

The implementation of MSTP is according to IEEE 802.1Q 2005 Clause 13 – Multiple
Spanning Tree Protocol. MSTP

allows frames assigned to different VLANs to follow

separate paths, each based on an independent Multiple Spanning Tree Instance (MSTI),
within Multiple Spanning Tree (MST) Regions composed of LANs and or MST Bridges.
Proper configuration of MSTP in an 802.1Q VLAN environment can ensure a loop-free data
path for a group of vlans within an MSTI. Redundant path and load balancing in VLAN
environment is also achieved via this feature. A spanning tree instance called
CIST(Common and Internal Spanning Tree)

always exists . Up to 64 more spanning

tree instances (MSTIs) can be provisioned.
