Installing an Expansion Card

CAUTION:

Before you perform this procedure, read the safety instructions in your System Information

document.

CAUTION:

See "Protecting Against Electrostatic Discharge" in the safety instructions in your System

Information document.

1. Unpack the expansion card, and prepare it for installation.

For instructions, see the documentation accompanying the card.

2. Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect the system from the electrical outlet.

3. Remove the cover (see "

Removing the Cover

").

4. Disconnect all expansion-card cables.

5. Remove the expansion-card cage (see "

Removing the Expansion-Card Cage

").

6. Position the expansion-card cage so that the riser board lies horizontally on your work surface.

7. Open the expansion-card latch (see

Figure 4-12

) and remove the filler bracket.

8. Install the expansion card (see

Figure 4-12

).

a. Position the expansion card so that the card-edge connector aligns with the expansion-card connector on the

expansion-card riser board.

b. Insert the card-edge connector firmly into the expansion-card connector until the card is fully seated.

c. When the card is seated in the connector, close the expansion-card latch (see

Figure 4-12

).

The card guide latch closes automatically as the card is seated in the connector.
