Installing a Hard Drive

NOTICE:

When installing a hard drive, ensure that the adjacent drives are fully installed. Inserting a hard-drive carrier

and attempting to lock its handle next to a partially installed carrier can damage the partially installed carrier's shield

spring and make it unusable.

1. Remove the bezel (see "

Removing the Bezel

").

2. If your replacement hard drive does not have a carrier, install the new drive on a carrier (see "

Installing a Hard Drive

on a Carrier

").

3. Open the hard-drive carrier handle (see

Figure 4-18

).

NOTICE:

Do not insert a hard-drive carrier and attempt to lock its handle next to a partially installed carrier. Doing so

can damage the partially installed carrier's shield spring and make it unusable. Ensure that the adjacent drive carrier is

fully installed.

4. Insert the hard-drive carrier into the drive bay (see

Figure 4-18

).

5. Close the hard-drive carrier handle to lock it in place.

6. Replace the bezel (see "

Replacing the Bezel

").

7. Install any required SCSI device drivers (see "Installing and Configuring SCSI Drivers" in the User's Guide for

information).

8. If the hard drive is new, run the SCSI controllers test in system diagnostics.
