CRC-4: Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC-4) is an error-checking

algorithm performed on digital transmissions. On a frame-by-frame

basis, a numerical value is derived from the data in the bit stream at

one end of transmission. When each frame reaches the receive end, the

cyclic redundancy check is calculated again and compared with the

value generated by the transmit-side data. Discrepancies usually

indicate one or more transmission errors.

Fn

Carrier Failure Alarm (CFA): CFA is an alarm sent from the node

indicating an E1 port has exceeded the Loss-of-Frame and the Loss-of-

Signal seconds threshold set in the Net Port Alarm Configuration Menu.

When enabled, an alarm is generated at the node and an Alarm

Indication Signal (AIS) is sent down stream to the other node.

Frame Alignment Signal Error (FASE) Alarm Category: This option

indicates the number of FAS errors has exceeded 10

. A FAS bit error

occurs in bits 2-8 of the FAS frame and bit 2 of the non-FAS frame.

A minor FASE alarm is indicated by an amber light on the network LED.

A major FASE alarm is indicated by a red light on the network LED, and

the alarm relay is enabled.

Frame Mode: Used to set the way timeslots 0 and 16 will be handled by

the DIDCSU.

CAS—Timeslot 0 is used for framing and timeslot 16 carries switched

telephone call setup and supervision information according to the

Channel Associated Signalling standard. This selection may apply if

some or all of the timeslots are used for PBX-based voice traffic.

CCS—Timeslot 0 is used for framing and timeslot 16 carries switched

telephone call setup and supervision information according to the

Common Channel Signalling standard. This selection may apply if

some or all of the timeslots are used for PBX based voice traffic.

31 Channel—Timeslot 0 is used for framing and timeslot 16 is

available for data traffic as are the remaining 30 timeslots.

Unframed—No timeslot is used for framing or voice channel signalling.

This will not be a valid selection for most E1 facilities. Network timing

cannot be used in this mode.

Enable Inband: This option dedicates an E1 timeslot as a maintenance

channel to receive and transmit remote configuration and diagnostic

information. The channel must be enabled on both ends of the E1. You

must designate the timeslot also (see below) only if inband is enabled.

The unit will not activate if timeslot 0 is chosen as the default.

This feature can be used to extend NCM management to a DIDCSU at

the far end of an E1 circuit.

Inband Timeslot: Select one of the 31 timeslots for inband

management before enabling the inband as described above. The

timeslot must be the same at both ends of the E1.
