Format a Diagnostic Dump Tape

Use the following procedure to format a 9840 tape cartridge with a special
format that prepares it to collect a diagnostic dump.

1. Ask the operator to make sure the drive does not have I/O to/from the host.

Note: In the enterprise environment, ask the operator to vary the drive

offline.

2. Press the

Menu

switch, then press

Select

for Offline.

3. Press the

Menu

switch until you reach the Drive Operations menu.

Drv Menu?

displays.

4. Press the

Select

switch to enter Drive Operation submenus.

5. Press the

Menu

switch once. The

MakeDumpTp

submenu displays.

6. Press the

Select

switch to start.

Note: Any tape cartridge in the drive ejects.

7. Load a write-enabled tape cartridge in the drive when

Ld Dump Tp

displays.

Notes:

Formatting starts automatically.

The green

activity

indicator flashes during the process.

The process erases previous data and gives the tape cartridge a
special dump tape ID coding.

If

DmpCrFailx

displays (where x=1 or 2), an error has occurred.

When formatting is done, the tape cartridge ejects.

8. Remove the tape cartridge.

Note: To format another dump tape, repeat Steps

.

9. Exit the Drive Operations menu.

10. Return the drive to Online.

11. Exit the Menu system.

Note: A steady

*

should display after exiting.

12. Inform the operator that the drive is ready.
