6 Setting Up M-to-N Remote Copy

1-to-1 Remote Copy

Follow these guidelines for setting up 1–to-1 remote copy.

To set up 1-to-1 remote copy in a unidirectional configuration:

See:

“Requirements” (page 13)

1.

Verify that your setup plan meets the remote-copy
requirements.

(basic 1-to-1 setup)

2.

Review the basic 1-to-1 setup and with the example
remote-copy pair used to illustrate unidirectional setup.

“Example Unidirectional Remote-Copy Setup” (page 76)

“Verifying Connectivity between Remote-Copy Pairs for
M-to-N Setup” (page 48)

Verify connectivity between the remote-copy pair you plan
to configure.

“Setting Up a Unidirectional Configuration” (page 76)

3.

Set up 1-to-1 remote copy in a unidirectional
configuration and start initial data replication for the
primary volume groups.

“Verifying That Virtual Volumes Are Created for
Unidirectional Remote Copy” (page 81)

4.

Make sure the virtual volumes you plan to replicate with
remote copy already exist.

“Selecting an Initial Replication Method for M-to-N Remote
Copy” (page 54)

5.

Create the volume groups.

6.

Start the initial data replication for the remote-copy pair
you are currently configuring:
• To copy data directly from the primary to the backup

system:

• To copy data first to tape and then from tape to the

backup system:

7.

(Optional) Set up a bidirectional configuration for one
remote-copy pair:

To set up 1-to-1 remote copy in a bidirectional configuration:

See:

“Requirements” (page 13)

1.

Verify that your setup plan meets the remote-copy
requirements.

5.

Set up the bidirectional aspects of 1-to-1 remote copy,
and start initial data replication for the primary volume
groups.

N-to-1 Remote Copy

Follow these guidelines for setting up N-to-1 remote copy.
