Setting Up the Systems for Bidirectional Remote Copy

In bidirectional remote copy, the backup system (System2) also contains primary volume groups
and therefore is also considered a primary system for the purposes of the primary volume groups
it contains.

Verify that unidirectional 1-to-1 remote copy is already set up.

If unidirectional 1-to-1 remote copy is set up, the required links between the remote-copy
systems already exist. To create a bidirectional configuration, you only need to create primary
volume groups on the new primary system (System2) and copy them to the new backup system
(System1). Proceed to

“Creating Volume Groups for Bidirectional Remote Copy” (page 88)

If a unidirectional 1-to-1 configuration is not yet set up, follow the steps in

“Setting Up a

Unidirectional Configuration” (page 76)

to set up the first primary system (System1).

Creating Volume Groups for Bidirectional Remote Copy

1.

Verify that the virtual volumes you plan to replicate from the new primary system to the new
backup already exist. For more information, see

“Verifying That Virtual Volumes Are Created

for Unidirectional Remote Copy” (page 81)

On the new primary system (System2), create a primary volume group:

NOTE:

You can create groups and add volumes to groups without disrupting host access

to volumes by issuing the following command:

# creatercopygroup <group_name> <target_name>:<mode>

where:

<group_name>

—Name of the primary volume group (Group2)

<target_name>

—Name of the target system (System1)

<mode>

—sync for synchronous mode or periodic for asynchronous periodic mode

The creatercopygroup command creates the following:

A primary volume group (Group2) on the primary system (the system on which you issue
the command, System2)

A name for the corresponding secondary volume group using the convention:

<primary_group_name>.r<sys_ID>

(of the primary system)

In this example, the secondary volume group is named Group2.r125.

The corresponding secondary volume group (Group2.r125) on the target system (in this
case, the backup system, System1).

Ensure that links are up on both systems and try the
