Use Caps and Plugs
Before transporting in dusty conditions or prolonged
storage, install caps and plugs to male and female
ends of pipe and to saver sub.
Replace Worn SaverLok ™ Connection
Because each pipe comes in contact with the SaverLok, check SaverLok connection regularly for wear.
Replace it when it is worn, or it will damage your drill pipe. See “Check SaverLok™” on page 219 for
replacement procedure.
Precondition a new saver sub the same way you do new pipe. See “Precondition New Pipe” on page 168.
Rotate Pipe Order
Because the lead drill pipe is in the ground longer, it is subjected to higher shock loads and experiences
more wear. To help spread this wear evenly over all pipe, move the lead pipe from the previous job to the
back of the string, and move every other pipe forward one position.
