Designing Networks

2. Change the channel on which the OpenLNS computer is attached following step 2 in Moving a

Device or Router to a Different Channel.

3. If you are moving an OpenLNS CT computer and you will be using a different network interface,

click Add-ins, point to LonWorks Network, and then click Network Properties. Click the
Network Interface tab, select the name of the new network interface, and then click OK.

4. Click OK.

Copying an OpenLNS CT SmartShape

You can copy an OpenLNS CT SmartShape in your OpenLNS CT drawing to create a new
SmartShape with the same properties of the original. For example, if you copy a device SmartShape,
OpenLNS CT creates a new device SmartShape with the same device template, configuration
properties, and device properties as the SmartShape from which it was copied. Extension records (data
records created by OpenLNS tools such as OpenLNS CT to store tool-specific information) that
indicate they can be copied will also be copied.

You can copy an OpenLNS CT SmartShape in two ways:

• Right-click the OpenLNS CT SmartShape, select Copy from the shortcut menu, right-click an

empty space in your OpenLNS CT drawing, and then click Paste.

• Select the OpenLNS CT SmartShape, hold down CTRL, and then drag the SmartShape to a new

location within the current drawing page.

You can copy multiple SmartShapes at the same time by holding down CTRL and clicking the
SmartShapes you want to copy, or clicking an empty space in the drawing page and dragging a
selection net around the SmartShapes.

If you copy a device SmartShape, the copy represents a different physical device than the original.
You must assign a new Neuron ID to the new device SmartShape when it is commissioned. You
cannot use this method to copy a network variable or message tag SmartShape. See Creating a
Network Variable SmartShape
for instructions on how to copy a network variable SmartShape. You
can only copy a connection reference SmartShape in conjunction with the attached Connector
SmartShape.

Tip: To copy an OpenLNS CT SmartShape from one to network to another, create a custom master
SmartShape in the current OpenLNS CT drawing and then drag the master SmartShape to the
destination drawing. See Chapter 12, Creating and Using a Custom OpenLNS CT Master SmartShape,
for more details on creating master SmartShapes.

Deleting an OpenLNS CT SmartShape

You can delete an OpenLNS CT SmartShape. To do this, either right-click the SmartShape and then
click Delete on the shortcut menu, or click the SmartShape and then press DELETE. If you selected
the Confirm Deletes check box in the Network Properties: General options category (see Appendix
A), click Yes to confirm the change.

If you remove a SmartShape that requires deleting other SmartShapes associated with it (a device with
one or more functional blocks assigned to it, for example), a message opens warning you that the
associated SmartShapes will also be deleted. Click Yes to delete the SmartShape and the additional
SmartShapes; click No to cancel the operation.

When you delete an OpenLNS CT SmartShape, the physical devices on the network may be affected.
In this case, OpenLNS CT and OpenLNS Server change the network configuration of the devices when
OpenLNS CT is OnNet and the OpenLNS server can communicate with the devices. The following
table summarizes how physical devices are affected when you delete various OpenLNS CT
SmartShapes.
