backup, the backup will be stored in the LM\Backup\<network name> folder and the backup file
will include the date on which it was created and an index (if necessary to make the file unique).

7. To set the periodic backup interval, select the desired number of days between backups in the

Interval in Days list under the Periodic Backup Options box. The default value is 7, which
means that a standard OpenLNS CT backup of the network drawing(s) and database is created
every week by default. For networks created with a previous release of OpenLNS CT, you will be
prompted as to whether to create a backup the first time you close the OpenLNS CT drawing. The
Periodic Backup Options box also includes a Prompt before Creating Backup check box that
you can clear so that OpenLNS CT automatically creates the backup without prompting you. This
option is selected by default.

8. Click OK.

Scheduling Backups with the Windows Task Scheduler

To schedule a regular backup of a network with the Windows Task Scheduler, you create a scheduled
task that runs OpenLNSCTDesignMgr.exe. The steps for this depend on your Windows OS.

Windows 7 / Windows Vista

To create a scheduled task in Windows 7 or Vista, follow these steps:

1. Open the Task Scheduler. Click the Start button, click Control Panel, click System and

Security, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Task Scheduler. If prompted, enter
the administrator password or provide confirmation.

2. Click Action, and then click Create Basic Task.

3. Enter a name for the task (for example, OpenLNS CT Backup) and an optional description, and

then click Next.

4. Click Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or One Time to select a schedule based on the calendar, click

Next, specify the schedule you want to use, and then click Next

5. Click Start a Program, and then click Next.

In the Program Script box, click Browse and select the OpenLNSCTDesignMgr.exe file. This
file is stored in the C:\Program Files\LonWorks or C:\Program Files (x86)\LonWorks folders
or in the C:\LonWorks\LonMaker folder for computers on which OpenLNS CT was upgraded
from LonMaker Turbo Editions.

6. In the Add Arguments box, enter the following script: /Backup=<network name>[/Quiet]

[/DB||/Drawing]. The following are explanations for the command line options.

/Quiet. Specifies that the network is to be backed up without any prompts.
/DB. Specifies that only the OpenLNS network database is to be backed up (the default is to

backup both the OpenLNS network database and the drawing).

/Drawing. Specifies that only the OpenLNS CT drawing is to be backed up.
