MAP Technology

calibrators

xMAP microspheres used to normalize the settings for the reporter
channel, both classification channels, and the doublet discriminator
channel for the Luminex 100 analyzer.

carboxylated
microspheres

An xMAP microsphere set that has been chemically modified so that
its surfaces are covered with carboxyl functional groups (COOH)
that allow covalent biomolecule attachment.

CL1

Refers to dyes embedded in the xMAP microsphere. Also see
classification channel.

CL2

Refers to dyes embedded in the xMAP microspheres. Also see
classification channel.

classification channel

A specific range of wavelengths in which light intensity is measured.
Includes the emission of a given classification dye. Classification
channels are abbreviated as CL1 and CL2. Channel CL3 is not
currently used.

clumping

The aggregation of two or more xMAP microspheres.

cuvette

Principal fluid pathway within the optics component of the system
through which the sample is read.

compensation

A mathematical technique employed to remove the spillover of one
fluorochrome’s emission spectra into another’s.

conjugated
microspheres

An xMAP microsphere set that has been chemically modified so that
its surfaces are covered with molecules that are to be used as a
component in an assay system.

coupled microsphere

See conjugated microsphere.

Cyanine 3

Fluorochrome used for reporter channel with Ex/Em=550/565.

data values

Information is recorded according to how the data is generated. For
example, log data is generated when using logarithmic amplifiers and
channel numbers are generated when using linear amplifiers.

doublet

Two adherent xMAP microspheres or a population of adherent
microspheres.

delta Cal temperature (dCal)

The difference between the current temperature of the doublet
discriminator APD and its temperature at the last calibration.
