130 | Configuring connectors

Multiple ShareScan OP Service Managers on the same domain or tree should all point to the same
Inbox Management directory. In this configuration, you only need to enable one Inbox Agent.
This also allows users to use Scan to eCopy Desktop from any available eCopy-enabled device. In
an environment where you use multiple devices and multiple Services Managers, eCopy
recommends that you use a network server.

Supporting multiple Inbox Management directories

If you have multiple ShareScan OP Services Managers, they can all use the same Inbox
Management directory, as recommended above; however, in certain cases you may choose to have
different Services Managers point to different Inbox Management directories, for example, to
provide fault tolerance should a Services Manager be temporarily unavailable.

If multiple Inbox Agents respond to a broadcast request, eCopy Desktop uses the first response.
This is not a problem when all the agents are returning the same path.

If you configure the Services Managers to point to different Inbox Management directories, you
must enable at least one Inbox Agent per location. In this situation, two agents may return
different inbox paths if the same user is registered in two lists. To avoid this, eCopy recommends
that all ShareScan OP Services Managers use the same Inbox Management directory.

About the list of registered users

The list of registered users is a text file, userdirs.txt, that is stored in the Inbox Management
directory. The ShareScan OP Services Manager uses this file to keep track of all registered users of
the Scan to eCopy Desktop connector and their inbox paths. The list is used at the device to supply
the list of recipients available on the Select Recipients screen.

When users sign up at the device, their names and inbox paths are added to the list of registered
users and can be selected from the recipients list at all devices that point to the Inbox
Management directory.

The

Scan Inboxes

tab displays the current list of registered users. Deleting a user deletes the user’s

ShareScan inbox, if applicable. Deleting a user whose scan inbox is a network home directory, or a
subdirectory in it, does not delete that user’s scan inbox; someone with appropriate access rights
may want to delete the scan inbox from the network home directory.
