Check and configure FactoryTalk Services Platform

See “Installing the FactoryTalk AssetCentre server software” on page 23 for the steps to get to
this part of the installation.

The setup program continues to check and configure FactoryTalk Services Platform.

The FactoryTalk Directory Server Configuration window asks if the computer on which
you are installing the software is also the computer that will be the FactoryTalk Directory
server. If this is the case, click Continue and go on to step 7. If the FactoryTalk Directory
server is on a different computer, click Select FactoryTalk Directory Server and
continue with the instructions below.

1. The utility may ask you to log on to FactoryTalk. Log on with your Windows

administrator username and password. (As mentioned earlier, members of the
Windows Administrators user group were automatically added to the FactoryTalk
Directory.)

2. In the FactoryTalk Directory Server Location Utility window, note the name in the

Computer hosting directory server field. (Most likely, this field will contain
localhost, which is correct only if you are using the computer that actually is the
FactoryTalk Directory Server.) If the name in the field is not the name of your
FactoryTalk Directory Server, click the browse button next to the field.

3. In the next window, select Remote computer. Type the name of your FactoryTalk

Directory Server in the field, or click the browse button next to the field to browse for
the server.

4. Once you have the name of the FactoryTalk Directory Server in the field, click OK,

and then click OK again.

5. If you chose a different computer to be the FactoryTalk Directory Server, you will see

a window saying that you will need to restart your computer. Click OK. The software
attempts a connection to the FactoryTalk Directory Server. You may be asked to log
on to the server. To lon on to the server, enter the username and password for a
Network Directory server administrator on the FactoryTalk Directory Server
,
and then click OK.

Respond to the FactoryTalk Directory Server Configuration window with care. Correctly
identifying the FactoryTalk Directory is essential to a properly functioning system.
