METHOD: Calcium and magnesium react in a strongly buffered
medium with an indicator to develop a pale purple color in
proportion to the concentration.

HANDLING &
PRESERVATION:
Samples should be analyzed as soon as possible after
collection. If storage is necessary, add 0.5 mL of 20 %
hydrochloric acid per 100 mL of sample. However, the
added acid will have to be neutralized with NaOH before
testing.
INTERFERENCES: Heavy metals will interfere.
