Before you can install the hardware RAID controller board, you need to remove the chassis cover, the
left-side riser assembly and the two mini-SAS cables that are connected to the SAS backplane board and
the baseboard for default software RAID.

1. Power down the server and remove all peripheral devices and the power cord(s)

2. Remove the chassis cover. For instructions, see “Removing the Cover”.

3. Remove the left-side riser assembly. For instructions, see “Removing a Riser Card Assembly.

4. Disconnect the mini-SAS 1 cable from the SAS 0-3 connector and the SGPIO1 connector on the

baseboard and the SAS HDD backplane board.

5. Disconnect the mini-SAS 2 cable from the SAS 4-5 connector and the SGPIO2 connector on the

baseboard and the SAS HDD backplane board.

For the locations of these connectors, see Figure 24, “Cable Routing” earlier in this chapter.

6. Fasten the RAID controller board to the bracket for the chassis rear, using the two screws in the kit.

7. Attach the plastic protective cover on the JT10 connector. (Figure 30, “B”)

8. Connect the mini-SAS 1 cable end labeled Controller Ports 0-3 into the JT6 connector (right) on the

RAID controller board. ( “C”)

9. Connect the mini-SAS 2 cable end labeled Controller Ports 4-5 plugs into the JT7 connector

(left).(“C”)

10. Press down on the RAID controller board to mate it with the blue PCI header 3 on the left side of the

baseboard. (Figure 30, “D”)
