4.2 Latency/Jitter Test

From the Latency/Jitter Test screen, the customer can manually initiate tests used to measure
network latency, inter-frame jitter and frame loss from the local 9145 to a remote 9145 in the net-
work. The test can be performed by setting the IP address or by using the automatic function.
From the Diagnostics menu, type 2 and press <Enter>. The Latency/Jitter Test screen (see Fig-
ure 4-3) appears. Type the number of the function you wish to change, and press <Enter>.Use
<Backspace> to delete the existing settings, then type in the desired settings. Once the settings
have been entered, press <Enter> to lock them in, then press <Esc> to return to the Diagnostics
menu. Configuration items are as follows:

CAUTION:User must not modify any of the IP settings while latency/jitter

test is running. Changing IP settings could result in unpredictable
behavior.

To IP Address - Enter the remote 9145's IP Address

From IP Address - Select the originating IP address that the 9145 will place into the test
packets. Use <Space> to scroll through Auto Selection, Management IP, test IP, and Aux IP.

Test VLAN - The test packets will carry this VLAN Tag. The Test VLAN setting can only be
changed if function 2, From IP Address, is set to Tst IP xxx.xxx.x.xxx.

Test Packets per sec - Controls the number of packets that will be sent for every second the
test runs. Settings are: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 or 100.

Packet Timeout sec (1 - 10) - Set the packet timeout for this test, from 1 to 10 seconds. If a
response is not received within this time limit, the packet will be considered dropped. This
setting is also used as the maximum setting for both the Latency and Jitter Measurements.
