4.3 PING Generation

From the PING Generation screen, which can also be found on the Utility menu, the customer
can determine if a destination is reachable from the NID. Self-Ping, pinging the Management IP
Address tests connectivity between the management processor and the 9145's FPGA. This is an
additional self-check function. From the Diagnostics menu, type 3 and press <Enter>. The PING
Generation screen (see Figure 4-4) appears.

1. On the PING Generation screen, type 1 and press <Enter>. Use <Backspace> to remove

existing Ping to Address and type in the desired address.

NOTE: A Test IP address must be entered on the Management IP Configura-

tion menu (see Figure 3-3) in order to have Test IP appear as a Ping
from Address selection.

2. On the PING Generation screen, type 1 and press <Enter>. Use <Space> to toggle

through Tst IP, Mgr IP, Aux IP, and Auto Selection. Type <Enter> to lock in selection.

NOTE: If Auto Selection is chosen, Test IP will be used to perform the ping

test. If a Test IP is not avialable, Aux IP will be used. If an Aux IP is
not available, then Manager IP will be used.

3. When finished setting up the PING Generation screen entries, type 7 and press <Enter>

to start the PING test.

4. When the test is complete, press <Esc> to return to the PING Generation screen. Press

<Esc> again to return to the Diagnostics menu.
