short, open, or which pair has a problem. The accuracy of the problem location is close to
meters. Cable Diagnostics can be started through the local terminal, Telnet, or SNMP.

1.1.22 IFX MIB

Version 6.0 software supports the latest version of the IF-MIB, including IFX extensions. IFX MIB
allows port statistics accessibility to systems which do not support private MIBs.

1.1.23 Port Based VLAN Control (PBVC)

PBVC will only allow VLAN tagged frames with VIDs matching a user-defined list to enter the
Metro Ethernet Network (MEN). Tagged frames received by the User Port will have their VIDs
compared to a PBVC list. If the VID is on the list, then the frame is allowed to pass through the
unit. Otherwise, the unit discards the frame.

1.1.24 Broadcast Ping

The 9145 responds to Broadcast PINGs addressed to the Manager IP network and received on
the Extension Port only.

1.1.25 Autonegotiation Speed Selection

Port speed selectionshave been added for 10M Auto, 100M Auto, 10/100M Auto and, for Gigabit
Fiber, 1000M Auto. 10M Full/Half, 100M Full/Half, 1000M Full/Half, and 10/100M/1000M Auto
are also available.

1.2 Management Security

The 9145 has comprehensive management access security features, including SNMPv3 authori-
zation, RADIUS, configurable password formatting and user access controls. You can set values
and options within the software that will work with the security protocols on your network. Typi-
cally, you must have supervisor access to configure and manage security for the 9145. The four
network security protocols listed below are supported. In addition, the 9145 supports strong
passwords, independent of the security protocols.

SNMPv3 - SNMPv3 provides authentication and encryption across a network.

Remote Access Dial In User Security (RADIUS) - The Radius server maintains user
account information. At login, it authenticates the username and password and sends a mes-
sage to the 9145 to allow the login. The Radius server can also be set up to require additional
authentication information before accepting the user. If the username or password is not
valid, the Radius server sends a message to the 9145 to disallow the login and reject the
user. Set up the parameters for the 9145 on the Radius Client Configuration screen.

Secure Shell version 2 (SSH-2) - SSH-2 provides authentication and encryption for a
secure remote connection that is similar to a standard Telnet connection, but more secure.
Set up the SSH access option individually for each User Account.
