There are six data entry modes:

Numeric/Normal mode (default)

Upper-case Alpha mode

Lower-case Alpha mode

Function Key mode

Delete mode

Alt and Ctrl Key mode.

See "Reading the Printer Status" and "About the Keypad" for more
information. When the printer is turned on, you are in
Numeric/Normal mode.

For Upper-case
Alpha

Press s.
Press s twice to return to Numeric/Normal
(4-line/33 Key printer).
Press s once to return to Numeric/Normal
(8-line/48 Key printer).

For Lower-case
Alpha (4-line/33 Key
Printer only)

Press s twice.
Press s once to return to Numeric/Normal.

The ninth display line indicates which mode the printer is in. See
"Reading the Printer Status" for more information. To enter or exit
the modes, use the function keys. See "About the Keypad" for
more information.

When you enter any mode (except Delete), it stays in effect
through the next key press. The printer then returns to Normal
mode. Delete mode stays in effect until you press a key other
than Del.
