• List: Displays ports on the local disk array.
• Port: Port number.
• Attribute: Port attribute (initiator, target, RCU target, or external).
• PCB Mode: Port mode. The mode is either Standard or High.
• CU#: Currently, displays nothing.
• Error Code: Error code.
Configuring port attributes
The administrator at primary and secondary sites must configure ports on the primary and secondary disk
arrays in the following ways:
• The administrator at the primary site must configure target ports, initiator ports, and RCU target ports
on the primary disk array.
• The administrator at the secondary site must configure initiator ports and RCU target ports on the
secondary disk array.
Ports on the XP10000/XP12000 have the target attribute by default. If you are configuring an
XP10000/XP12000, determine which ports should be initiator or RCU target ports, and change the ports’
attributes from target to initiator or RCU target.
• Target: A target port is a Fibre Channel port used to connect a disk array and a host. When the host
issues a write request, the request is sent to a volume through a target port on the disk array. Target
ports must be configured on primary disk arrays for Continuous Access XP Journal operations.
• Initiator: An initiator port is a Fibre Channel port that sends commands to a remote disk array. Initiator
ports must be configured on the primary and remote disk arrays for Continuous Access XP Journal
operations.
• RCU target: An initiator port is a Fibre Channel port that receives commands from a remote disk array.
RCU target ports must be configured on the primary and remote disk arrays for Continuous Access XP
Journal operations.
NOTE: If initiator ports and RCU target ports are not configured on the primary and remote disk arrays,
the following problems occur and remote copy operations are not performed:
• The administrator at the primary site cannot create any pair of a primary and secondary volume.
• The secondary disk array cannot read data from journal volumes in the primary disk array.
CAUTION: Before changing a Fibre Channel port to an initiator port, disconnect the port from the host,
delete all affected data volume pairs, delete all logical paths from the initiator port to the remote disk
array, and remove all channel paths to the port.
CAUTION: Before changing a Fibre Channel port from initiator to target or RCU target, delete all affected
data volume pairs, delete all logical paths from the initiator port to the remote disk array, and disconnect
the local and remote disk arrays.
CAUTION: Limit the number of hosts connected to a target port to 128 or fewer to avoid mistaken
disconnection. If more than 128 hosts are connected to a target port, some hosts may be disconnected
after changing the type from target to RCU target.
