Before starting

• If the VCR and the TV are connected with only an aerial

cable, press TVA/CR to display “VCR” in the display
window.

• Check that the REC SYSTEM buttons is pressed

corresponding to the color system you want to record.

in place.

The power turns on automatically.

Press T. SPEED to select the tape speed.

The tape speed that can be selected with the Rec
System differ as mentioned below:

NTSC, M-PAL: SP or EP
PAL, SECAM, MESECAM, N-PAL: SP or EP

EP provides three times as much recording time as SP,

although SP produces better picture and audio sounds.

Press CHANNEL /\/\/ or number buttons to

select the channel to record.

When you use the number buttons, press the button as
follow:

Example

To select CH7, press 0 then 7.
To select CH77, press 7 then 7.
To select CH107, press 100, 0 then 7.

Press • REC/OTR to start recording.

To pause recording

Press II PAUSE/STILL. To resume recording, press
REC/OTR.

To prevent an accidental recording

Break off the erasure prevention tab on the back edge of the

cassette.
To record over the tape again, cover the gap with adhesive
tape.

To watch another TV program while

recording

If the TV is connected only with an antenna cable, press TV/
VCR after starting the recording so that “VCR” in the display

window disappears. Then select another channel on the TV.
To monitor the recording, set the channel on the TV to that
of the CHANNEL selector, and press the TV/VCR button

again.

To pause a picture of TV program

Press FREEZE. To return to the normal picture, press
FREEZE again.
You can also pause a picture from VIDEO IN jack.
During recording, the FREEZE function does not work.
During FREEZE, you cannot record.

Recording a TV program in a color

system other than NTSC

This VCR can record in the color system of NTSC, PAL,
SECAM, MESECAM, M-PAL or N-PAL. See page 12.

• If you want to record the program through the line input,

press CHANNEL /\/\Y continuously or press INPUT
to display “AV” (from AV IN/OUT (TV) connector at the rear),
“LINE1” (from AUDIO/VIDEO IN jacks at the rear), or
“LINE2” (from the AUDIO/VIDEO IN jacks in the front) on the
TV screen in step 3.

• If you want to start recording during playback, press II PAUSE/

STILL during playback, then press • REC/OTR twice.

• If you try to record on a cassette without its erasure

prevention tab, the VCR will eject the cassette.

• If recording pause lasts for more than 5 minutes, the VCR

will automatically enter stop mode to protect the tape.
