Digital Interface

5.3.1 Introduction

The digital output provided by the CEL-393B is intended for direct
connection to the CEL-238, -338, -438 Digital Processor/Printers which
provides archiving, hard copy and additional processing capacity. Full
details are given in the relevant handbooks.

Alternatively the CEL-433 Interface may be used to connect directly to
IBM compatible personal computers or to the Epson HX-20 portable
computer. Cables and software are available for both of these comput-
ers, and their operation is described below. In addition, a general
description is provided to allow the CEL-393B to be used in conjunction
with any general purpose system using the RS-232C protocol.

5.3.2 Operation with IBM Compatible Personal

Computers

An interface kit, which comprises cables, CEL-433 interface, and soft-
ware, has been developed to permit connection of the CEL-393B to an
IBM AT or XT computer, along with most IBM-PC compatibles. This
combination allows data to be transferred directly to the computer for
display on the screen, printing on the printer, and permanent storage on
the disk. In this form, the storage capacity is not limited by the answer
capacity available in the CEL-393B.

Alternatively, after data collection in the field, the Interface Kit may be
used to down-load the contents of the memory in the CEL-393B at any
time chosen by the user.
