2. Move the mouse off the right of the default screen. The mouse should appear

on the other screen. You can now gain focus on the Xwindow. From here,
you use the new window or open more windows.

Accessing a second display by using standard Xwindows and Motif is also very
easy. You can start Xwindows and access the second display using the same
method described above. In addition, you can "stack" the screens in any order you
like. So, for example, you could have the two screens in a vertical environment.
You can start Xwindows in a vertical environment by running the command:

xinit -- -P21 gga -P11 gga1

This will display the first screen, using gga0, and the second below the first, using
gga1. To access the second display in this environment, you would move the
mouse off the bottom of the screen.

In normal environments, having a second screen is not very useful. As the CDE
environment allows virtual screens, having a separate display does not provide a
huge amount of benefit. There are, however, some applications where this can be
very useful. In situations where a piece of data or application has to be
permanently visible, this setup can be used. This option provides more screen
"real estate" and will allow you to have more windows visible without cluttering up
the desktop.

5.6.6 Support for Other Adapters

The only adapter supported by the E20 and F30 is the S15 graphics adapter. In
our testing, we found that the S15 is also the only adapter which will work with the
machines. The 43P provides support for three graphics adapters: E15, S15 and
the GXT150P. We tested the E15 and GXT150P adapters with the PCI-based
RS/6000 servers for those who, perhaps, want to swap adapters from their existing
PCI workstations to the new servers.

At the firmware level, daVIC95269, the E20 and F30 only have support for the S15,
and as such, it would not be possible for the POST screen to be displayed using
these adapters. An update to the firmware which contains the the required support
would be required. AIX, however, contains the device drivers to support the
adapters. We installed the device drivers for both the E15 and GXT150P and
installed the cards separately. In both cases, we found problems with AIX, and the
adapters could not be configured. The adapters are recognized by AIX, but cannot
be made available. After extensive testing, we found no way in which to make the
adapters work with AIX Version 4.1.4.
