If you don't use a gateway between both systems, the Gateway IP Address
should be the same as the Server IP Address.
9. If the ping operation was successful, press the Esc key to return to the
Network Parameters submenu.
10. Press the Esc key again to return to the System Management Services menu.
Select the Select Boot Devices option from the menu.
11. Select the Boot Other Device option, followed by the corresponding Network
Adapter option. Press Enter for the system to initiate a BOOTP request to the
NIM Server.
After two minutes (it seems longer), the bottom of the screen will become white.
Two minutes later, the screen will become black, and a green cursor will
appear on the upper-left corner. Finally, the installation selection screen will
appear, and you will be able to use the normal AIX installation procedures to
install the software.
9.4 Post-Installation Operations
After the NIM Client is initially installed, you may want to use NIM to install
additional software on the Client. This is possible, but it must only be done by
using the lpp_source resource object. You cannot use the SPOT for this purpose.
This means that only software packages can be installed and no individual filesets.
The software packages you want to install must have been previously installed in
lpp_source. To install additional packages to the lpp_source resource object, you
can use the
bffcreate command, and specify the lpp_source directory (in our
example, /inst.images) as the directory for storing software packages).
You should run a check resource operation on the lpp_source resource after
installing the additional software. For this, you can use the SMIT fastpath:
smitty nim_res_op
Select the lpp_source resource and then the check operation.
To install additional software on the Client, log in as root on the Client, and perform
the following steps:
1. Enter the following SMIT fastpath command to allocate the NIM resources:
smitty nim_alloc
2. From the displayed list, select the lpp_source resource. After the resource
has been allocated, exit SMIT.
3. Enter the following SMIT fastpath command on the Client to perform the
installation operation:
smitty nim_install
4. Select the cust operation. A screen similar to the following will appear; enter
the values:
