Figure 35. SMIT ISA Menu

Once there, select Add an ISA Adapter. The follow-up screen is not the same for
all adapters. Some adapters require more parameters to be specified than others.
Moreover, some menus allow you to define the adapter without configuring it. If
that is the case for your adapter, specify the selected parameters, and set the
Define device only, do not configure menu field to

yes

.

If the adapter definition is successful, it means that your selected parameters could
be resolved by the system and are not in conflict with any other ISA adapters
already configured. If the definition process fails, the

lsresource

command will

display information on the SMIT menu about which parameters could not be
resolved and will display recommended values for these parameters.

If the Add an ISA Adapter menu does not provide the field Define device only, do
not configure, you can still execute the configuration. Since the adapter is not yet
physically installed, the configuration will fail. However, if no conflict error
messages are displayed on the SMIT menu by the

lsresource

command, it means

that your selected parameters values would be the right ones to configure the
adapter once it is physically installed in the system.

6.3.5 Setting the Adapter DIP Switches

Once the values parameters have been selected and you have tested and found
there are no conflicts with ISA adapters already installed on the system by using
the Add an ISA adapter menu, you can select these values by setting the DIP
switches on the adapter as described in its Installation Guide booklet.
