It is recommended to set these passwords to disable unauthorized access to your
machine. If you forget either of the passwords, the only way to remove the
passwords is by removing the battery from the RS/6000 for at least 30 seconds.
Removing the battery, however, will cause all the user-configured data, such as the
Boot Device Order List, to be lost. All of the user-configured data will be reset to
the default values.

10.6.2.1 Power-On Password

When the Power-On Password is set, the system will ask for this password each
time it is powered-on, unless the Enable Unattended Start Mode feature has been
selected from System Management Services.

When prompted for the password, you have three tries. After three failures, you
will have to power-off and restart the system.

10.6.2.2 Supervisory Password

The Supervisory Password protects against unauthorized access to System
Management Services. When a Power-On Password and a Supervisory Password
are both set:

To boot the operating system without accessing System Management Services,
only the Power-On Password is required.

If you want to access System Management Services, only the Supervisory
Password is required after pressing F4 or F1 (4 or 1 on an ASCII terminal).
From there, you can start the operating system.

10.6.3 ISA Adapter Configuration

When an ISA adapter is installed in a PCI-Based RS/6000 Systems, the device
driver is not automatically installed. Device drivers have to be manually installed.
You can determine which ISA device drivers are installed in your machine by using
the SMIT fastpath:

smit isa

Select Add an ISA Adapter.

From here, you should see which devices you can install into your system. If the
device you wish to add is not listed, and it is a supported option, you can install the
device drivers for the ISA adapters with the SMIT fastpath:

smit isa

Select Install ISA Adapter Software. From here, you can install the device driver
filesets that you require to support your adapter.

Once the device drivers have been installed, you can configure the adapters (see
6.3, “ISA Adapter Configuration” on page 104).

The ISA logical slot ID does not depend on the physical slot in which the adapter is
placed. The logical IDs are assigned as adapters are added to the system. If
more than one ISA adapter is installed in the system, the adapter installed in the
first physical slot will be given the first logical slot ID; the adapter installed in the
second physical slot will be given the second logical slot ID, and so on.
