9.2.3 NIM Master Activation
Prior to NIM Master activation, do not forget to mount the previously created
filesystems.
To activate the Master, you will need the following information:
Network object name
Specifies the identifier you wish to name the objects that NIM creates to
represent the network, where the Master's primary interface connects. You can
use any name you like, and you should choose a name which is meaningful to
you.
Primary network install interface
The name of the network interface that the Master will use as its primary
interface (either
trX or enX).
Port number
Specifies the port number for NIM network communications between the NIM
Master and its Clients. For example, the port number might be 1058. Select a
port number that is not being used. Check the
/etc/services file for potential
conflicts before selecting another port number.
Ring speed
Specifies the ring speed when a token-ring configuration is used, 4 MB or 16
MB.
Cable type
The type of Ethernet cable when an Ethernet configuration is used.
Configuring the NIM Master Fileset
The SMIT support to configure the NIM Master fileset assigns the wrong
platform type (
rs6k instead of rspc) to the NIM object. The SMIT menu does
not provide any field to specify the platform type; thus, to configure the Master
fileset correctly, you should use the command line to enter the following
command:
nimconfig -anetname='network1' -apif_name='tr ' -amaster_port='1 58' \
-aring_speed='16' -aplatform='rspc'
After the command, the system will display the following:
513- 71 The nimesis Subsystem has been added.
513- 71 The nimd Subsystem has been added.
513- 59 The nimesis Subsystem has been started. Subsystem PID is 24512.
What Happens when the Master is Activated?
Four NIM objects have been defined in the NIM database: One machine object,
called master, one network object representing the Master's primary network
(called
network1
in the example), and two resource objects, boot and nim_script.
These objects are used internally by the NIM Master.
