in your system except for the SCSI adapter used to boot the diagnostics CD-ROM.
If the diagnostics are run in Concurrent mode using Stand-alone Diagnostics (the
CD-ROM is mounted while AIX is running), then you have access to the AIX Error
Log and the AIX Configuration Data, but you are limited to which devices you can
test.

The following are some considerations that you should make when running
Stand-alone Diagnostics:

The diagnostics disc must remain in the CD-ROM drive for the entire time that
diagnostics are executing. The disc can only be ejected after the system has
been turned off and then turned on again (Stand-alone mode) or after the
diagnostics program has terminated (Online Concurrent mode).

The CD-ROM drive from which diagnostics were loaded cannot be tested.

The SCSI adapter (or circuitry) controlling the CD-ROM drive from which
diagnostic were loaded cannot be tested.

ISA adapters can only be tested if they have been configured to the system. If
you boot diagnostics from CD-ROM, you will have to configure the ISA
adapters before you can test them.

8.2.1 Booting the Stand-Alone Diagnostics CD-ROM

To run the Stand-alone Diagnostics, perform the following steps:

1. Remove all diskettes and CD-ROMs.

2. Turn the system unit's power on.

3. Insert the diagnostics CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

4. When the keyboard POST indicator appears, press F5 on the directly attached

keyboard or the number 5 key on the ASCII terminal keyboard, to indicate to
the system that the default Boot Device Order List is to be used. (The
CD-ROM drive is the second device in this list, and provided there is not a
bootable diskette in the diskette drive, the system will boot the diagnostics
CD-ROM which you have inserted).

5. Enter any requested password (Power-On or Privileged-Access).

6. Follow the instructions to select the console.

7. Follow the displayed instructions to test the desired resources.

8. When testing is complete, use the F3 key to return to the Diagnostic Operation

Instructions screen.

If your system contains ISA adapters, you will not be able to automatically test
them. You will have to configure the adapters to the system using the ISA
Configuration menu found in Service Aids. The ISA Configuration Service Aids will
display all the ISA adapters supported by the diagnostics which you are running.
Diagnostic support for ISA adapters not shown in the list may be supported from a
supplemental diskette.
