In order to have a SPOT with all the software we want to have on the Client
(including the CDE package), we need to install the filesets listed above. This can
be done with the

cust

operation on the SPOT resource. This operation can be

performed using the following SMIT fastpath:

smitty nim_res_op

Then select the SPOT resource object (spotNIM in our case) and the cust
operation. Enter the fileset names listed above.

Customize a SPOT

Type or select values in entry fields.
Press Enter AFTER making all desired changes.

If the operation was successful, you will be able to install the X11.Dt (Common
Desktop Environment) filesets into the SPOT. To do this, you will have to run a
new

cust

operation on the SPOT, but this time you will select lpp_source as the

Source of Install Images, and enter X11.Dt in the Fileset Names field.

9.2.7 Allocating Resources for the Stand-Alone Installation

Before initiating the NIM Client installation, you have to allocate the resources for
the specific Client. Once resources have been defined and allocated to a Client,
you can use NIM to start the bos_inst operation for the Client. At a minimum, you
must allocate a SPOT resource and an lpp_source resource.

To allocate resources to the NIM Client, proceed as follows:

1. Enter the following fastpath command:

smitty nim_alloc

2. Select your Client from the list of defined machines (in our case, standalone1).

3. When the list of available resources for the Client is displayed, select one or

more of the resources by using the F7 key (in our example, spotNIM and
imagesNIM).
