Target: A target port is a Fibre Channel port used to connect an array and a host. When the host

issues a write request, the request is sent to a volume through a target port on the array. You must

configure target ports on primary arrays for Continuous Access XP Journal operations.

Initiator: An initiator port is a Fibre Channel port that sends commands to a remote array. You

must configure initiator ports on primary and remote arrays for Continuous Access XP Journal

operations.

RCU target: An initiator port is a Fibre Channel port that receives commands from a remote

array. You must configure RCU target ports on primary and remote arrays for Continuous Access

XP Journal operations.

External: An external port is a port that is required for External Storage XP copy operations. This

port is not used for Continuous Access XP Journal copy operations.
If necessary, you can change this port to a target, initiator, or RCU target port.

Initiator/external: A port with a combination of initiator and external port attributes. You can

use a port with this attribute for both Continuous Access XP Journal and for external storage

remote command devices. You cannot change this attribute using the Continuous Access XP

Journal GUI. For more information about ports with the Initiator/External MIX attribute, see the

HP StorageWorks External Storage XP user guide.

NOTE:

If initiator and RCU target ports are

not

configured on the primary and remote arrays, the following

problems occur and remote copy operations are not performed:

The administrator at the primary site cannot create pairs for primary and secondary volumes.

The secondary array cannot read data from journal volumes in the primary array.

CAUTION:

Before changing a Fibre Channel port to an initiator port, disconnect the port from the host, delete all

affected data volume pairs, delete all logical paths from the initiator port to the remote array, and

remove all channel paths to the port.

CAUTION:

Before changing a Fibre Channel port from initiator to target or RCU target, delete all affected data

volume pairs, delete all logical paths from the initiator port to the remote array, and disconnect the

local and remote arrays.

CAUTION:

Limit the number of hosts connected to a target port to 128 or fewer to avoid mistaken disconnections. If

more than 128 hosts are connected to a target port, some hosts may be disconnected after changing the

type from target to RCU target.

NOTE:

A port assigned to SLPR other than SLPR0 can be set to a Target port attribute only.

To configure a Fibre Channel port's attributes, the primary and remote array administrators must perform

the following procedure:

1.

Ensure that Command View XP or XP Remote Web Console is in Modify mode. For more information,

see the HP StorageWorks Command View XP user guide for XP Disk Arrays or the HP StorageWorks

XP Remote Web Console user guide for XP12000/XP10000/SVS200.
