Combining Continuous Access XP Journal and Business Copy XP
You can use Continuous Access XP Journal and Business Copy XP together in the same array and on the
same volumes to provide multiple copies of data at the primary and/or remote sites. Table 19 describes
host pair status reporting for Continuous Access XP Journal volumes, Business Copy XP volumes, and
Continuous Access XP Journal/Business Copy XP shared volumes. Table 20 shows the currency of
the data on a shared Continuous Access XP Journal/Business Copy XP volume based on Continuous
Access XP Journal and Business Copy XP pair status.
• For shared Continuous Access XP Journal/Business Copy XP volumes, the Continuous Access XP
Journal pair status is reported to the host if you query the Continuous Access XP Journal primary
or secondary data volume. To obtain the Business Copy XP pair status, query the Business
Copy XP pair's P-VOL.
• Business Copy XP supports multiple S-VOLs for each P-VOL. If you issue a pair status query to a
Business Copy XP P-VOL (for example, pairdisplay), the status of only one Business Copy XP pair
is reported (the pair with the S-VOL having the lowest LDEV ID). To obtain the pair status for the
Business Copy XP pairs with other S-VOLs, you must direct the host query to the specific S-VOL
using the S-VOL's LDEV ID in the host command. The Business Copy XP displays the port, TID,
LUN, LDEV ID and Business Copy XP pair status of all S-VOLs associated with a P-VOL.

Figure 16 shows an example of a Continuous Access XP Journal primary data volume that also
functions as a Business Copy XP P-VOL. You can use this configuration to use Business Copy XP for
on-site data backup if a Continuous Access XP Journal failure occurs and to use Continuous Access XP
Journal to provide remote backup of the Business Copy XP P-VOL if a Business Copy XP failure occurs.
