Bearings inspection

Condition of bearings

Do not reuse bearings. The condition of the bearings provides useful information on operating conditions
in the bearing frame.

Checklist

Perform these checks when you inspect the bearings:

• Inspect the bearings for contamination and damage.
• Note any lubricant condition and residue.
• Inspect the ball bearings to see if they are loose, rough, or noisy when you rotate them.
• Investigate any bearing damage to determine the cause. If the cause is not normal wear, correct the

issue before you return the pump to service.

Reassembly

Assemble the rotating element and bearing frame

CAUTION:
Wear insulated gloves when you use a bearing heater. Bearings get hot and can cause physical injury.

NOTICE:

• Make sure that the pipe threads are clean, and that you apply thread sealant to the plugs and fittings.
• Use an induction heater that heats as well as demagnetizes the bearings when you install bearings.

1. Install the bearings:

a) Heat the bearings to 100°C (212°F) in an oil bath or with a bearing heater.
b) Clamp the shaft (210) in a bench vise with the thrust bearing surface extending beyond the end of

the vise. Use soft jaws to protect the shaft surface.

c) Install the properly-heated thrust bearing (320.52) onto the shaft.
